DDRKirby(ISQ)'s EleTD 4.0pb Tips n Tricks Compendium
holepercent replied to DDRKirby(ISQ)'s topic in WarCraft 3
plenty of useful information. although in time to come, you might want to reorganise this into various sections. Or i might combine this with my personal guide (the beta leads will know that it's stored in club element) .. takes a long long time to write a full guide.. although as you say some are not for most players, it's still useful information to know. Eventually, some of those players who move on to be experts would be thankful for knowing those stuff which they wouldn't have know otherwise. Not everything is that easily picked up just by casual playing... -
interesting. there was also a brief discussion before of combining kindle and gold towers. use kindle to reduce the hp enough for the gold towers to kill the creep in one hit. Someone tried experimenting with mass flesh golem towers before.. not sure how that went. in any case, these 'weird' strategies are for single-player fun. most probably wouldn't work in a decent multiplayer game.. the (beta) leads agree that in balancing, no single tower should be able to solo the whole game. Hence, there is no close substitute to the 3.0 gold tower only strategy present in 4.0, where one tower wins the game. Massing a single tower usually isn't a good strategy in element td. extra: that's why host all your games. then you'll play to the end (until you're schooled or complete the game)

ELEMENT DRAFT PHRASE Draft order: 1st pick: Kaini 2nd pick: Cisz 3rd pick: chris 4th pick: jolin012 5th pick: DDRKirby(ISQ) 6th pick: DDRKirby(ISQ) 7th pick: jolin012 8th pick: chris 9th pick: cisz 10th pick: kaini 11th pick: kaini 12th pick: cisz 13th pick: chris 14th pick: jolin012 15th pick: DDRKirby(ISQ) For your pick, pick a element and it's corresponding tier, for example, fire tier 3. You can pick higher tiers without needing the lower tiers to be drafted first. No repeats. Interest and extra pures must also be drafted if you wish to have either interest/extra pure available for summoning. I will not be adding either into the pool at the end. The tier is important. read the original draft thread for some explaination of the importance of specifying the tier. 3 picks only per player. 15 picks in TOTAL by all 5 players. Each player contributes 3 to make the final 15. Kaini: 1st, 10th and 11th pick. Cisz: 2nd, 9th and 12th pick chris: 3rd, 8th and 13th pick jolin012: 4th, 7th and 14th pick DDRKirby(ISQ): 5th, 6th and 15th pick please wait for your turn. ensure that the drafter who is before you has made his choice before you make yours. keep to the order above. to help others, include the pick number when making your choice. therefore, the first post by kaini should be something like 1st pick: fire tier3 second post by cisz would be something like 2nd pick: water tier3 and so on... First drafter can take some time to think through before starting. Consider what towers have been removed. It may be good draft strategy to start with something like fire/water/earth tier3. Tier3s and tier2s usually make good choices for the first few picks. Remember, some diplomacy is part of the draft. You could include comments about your choice of element picks to influence other players. Have fun!

THE FORUM DRAFT SERIES! This will be the thread for the forum draft and uploading of replays... for information on how the draft works, refer to Draft! Discussion of the mode is to be done in that thread. This thread is only for the drafters and hosts. Forum draft Game #1: Draft host: holepercent Drafters: Cisz, jolin012, kaini, chris, DDRKirby(ISQ) The draft has come to an end and jolin012 and DDRKirby will share the spoils. The tower removal phrase started with Kaini removing poison for dual and voting Gold - Laser - Obvilion for triples removal. The first set of removals didn't feature any really strong towers. First removal tends to be the weaker duals and triples. Hydro and kindle were the stronger and more useful duals removed. In triples removal Gold - polar - impulse are removed with each having 2 votes. The rest of the removals, being windstorm - flamethrower - laser - tidal removed randomly by draft host. The stronger towers such as quaker and zealot which received one vote each stayed in the pool.. The element draft pharse started with Kaini drafting darkness 3 which most objected to. Cisz's 2nd pick, water3 was accepted by all. Chris followed up with earth 3 before jolin and kirby drafted the other 2 lower tiers of water. 6th pick by kirby was fire2. 5th element, light1 was then drafted by jolin. Hopes were this would be a five-element build but it didn't turn out to be so as chris drafted nature1. All 6 elements were available and led to periodics being removed by the draft host, attracting some debate on the sudden rule addition. A discussion followed on how to make the draft interesting. It seemed that the only way to make the draft challenging and interesting was for the remaining picks to be light, interest or extra essences.. After much discussion, it was decided that it would be best if chris changed his pick which he agreed to. nature1 became darkness1 and the draft was back to 5 elements. light2, earth1, light3, interest, fire1, interest, interest made up the rest of the picks. After a brief discussion and clarification of the final rules and scoring system, the drafters were given 72hours to submit their replays. It appeared to be a reasonable game to complete but it fact it was much harder than thought. Many early attempts ended in the 30s and 40s. Kirby was first to submit his replay by PM. Cisz was next. Kirby then submitted a second replay. jolin spent much of the last 24hrs playing to obtain a noleak replay which he submitted. Kaini submitted his close to draft closure. The draft closed and chris hadn't submitted his replay. it was agreed that some extra time would be given to him before he was disqualified from the draft. He eventually did submit his replay. The replays were reviewed and scores tallied up by the draft host. It ended up as a tie between jolin and kirby but i decided not to use the '-2' build design rule to decide a winner and left the score as a draw. Although this draft was interesting, kirby felt that there was not as much room for variety and experimenting in builds as he would have liked to have. In the end, there wasn't many ways of actually completing the game given the restrictions. Light wasn't used by any of the top 3 players. The four-element DWEF was the build of choice. The ice build failed to impress. Given the time constraints, it wasn't easy putting out replays of this standard but you all did so anyway. If anyone finds other ways/better builds, feel free to post your replays here. The draft may have ended but it doesn't stop you from experimenting with other builds which you may not have had the time to do in the 72 hours. Anyone game for draft #2 ?

element td isn't a game where one tower owns everything. you'll need a mix of towers to complete the game. electricity tower can be used as your damage source but you'll still need towers like aoe slow, damage/tower amplification. for elementals you'll need strong single-target towers. zealot or maybe long range towers like impulse can help. maybe you could give more details on your build for further advice...
-
can be interesting but it's a bit too random and removes most of the skill required to play element td well. chances is that one player would be getting all the strong towers while others are left repeatedly selling and rebuilding to get a decent set of towers, resulting in mass leaks.. and the elementals are killed free of charge? or you kill 'random' tier1,tier2 or tier3 elementals, which when killed adds a random element which the player doesn't know? although i suppose this could be a fun addition to the game, maybe giving every tower a chance to be 'in play'..
-
the idea was so that you could support (by drafting the lower tiers for him) or deny support (draft another element) for another player. it's more interesting to see what others think of your element choice than simply purely raising the tier of a element already drafted. it's a minor difference but my team agreed that it was more exciting that way (specifying the tier and letting the draft run than purely raising tiers of elements).. i actually did several drafts with a inhouse team with various modifications before it settled into what is in the first post. the draft mode wasn't something i came up with randomly and just decided to post it.

for those interested in trying out the draft mode, i'm holding a draft on the forum. PM me your IGN and forum nick. RULES: READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PM-ING YOUR NICK I will be the 'host' .. The draft will be carried out on this forum by posts in a thread to be created later once there are enough players. Please be committed to checking the forums regularly and not hold up the draft. Draft will follow as per first post. Draft order will be randomly decided by myself. The game itself can be played in single player mode or multiplayer but all players must follow the draft rules. Very hard difficulty, pick (of course), non-chaos, non-extreme. No other modes allowed. Short mode will be accepted. Main defense must be set up at a area no slower than III (playing at III is allowed). Covering towers/leak catching towers are allowed at slower areas. You are allowed to leak but not for interest. the winner will be decided be a criteria set by myself. This could include factors such as networth, time taken to complete, number of leaks, creativity in build and working around the restrictions etc.. PM your nick if you're interested and committed. Enjoy!

another period of being MIA.. like during the betas.. read this thread for some ideas...

for those looking for something interesting to try for their next game.. This takes some time to set up so it's not for public games.. more for inhouse/clans... you'll have to do this manually and i don't think this will be popular as a mode as it requires too much pregame for those who just want a quick game.. The Element TD DRAFT!! (mainly for inhouse 3-5 players of around equal skill) the draft starts with the removal of the 5 duals and 7 triples from the pool the pool consists of the 15 duals and 20 triples. Each player removes from the pool a dual of his choice. 5 duals are removed. if less than 5 players, host picks the rest of the removals. Each player votes 3 triples to be removed from the pool, 7 triples with most votes are removed from the pool duals removed from the pool cannot be built, not even as intermediates to triples. triples removed from the pool cannot be build. next, the elementals are drafted Each player picks a element and a tier, like fire3. any tier, including higher tiers, can be picked. Other players can pick the lower tier if they also want that element at that tier. Or you could pick the lower tier at your next pick. see the example below. If host desires, interest and pures must also be drafted, in which case, no more pures and interest will be added after the draft ends. If not, host can add interest and pures himself after the elements are picked. each player has 2-3 picks. at the end, combine all the picks. the optimum is around 15 (12 elementals, 2 interest, 1 extra pure). all legal tiers are added into the pool. if only tier1 and 3 is picked, tier1 and 2 enters the pool. lowest tier available is added.. downgrade to lowest possible if lower tiers are not drafted. example: 4players (12 picks total, 3 picks each) draft order (player 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1,1,2,3,4) earth3, water1, fire2, nature1, nature 2, earth1, light2, water2, fire1, earth2, dark1, water3. final elements in the pool: water1-3, earth1-3, fire1-2, nature1-2, dark1, light1. Usually, 2 interests and a extra pure is added (host choice/drafted) order is decided by the players in game but only those in the pool can be summoned. the format provided some excitement and fun for all in trying to work around the restrictions of the towers and elements removed from the pool. welcome to the forums. i'm also singapore player on USwest. i host fullhouse multiplayer games fri and sat nights 2200 onwards. Read up on strategy, view replays (click on the links in my sig ) and keep playing.

i do want this mode to be in the game.. to compensate maybe just for VH.. made for exciting games in VH rnd (when timer on leak was in the betas).. although it's true that it isn't nice to have to clear leaks from a difficult wave and a fresh wave at the same time. or having this setting combined with the current extreme mode.. also for single player testing to have a closer multiplayer feel. it's unlikely in a strong fullhouse multiplayer game to have so much time to clear the wave and not be punished for leaks..
-
extra memory work.. could be interesting i would say for more experienced players. variety in build design for pick.. could be a advantage or disadvantage in random with double 200%s or 50%s.. But i'm afraid this may confuse newcomers who already have to learn about the pregame settings and the basic elemental damage system... and a new set of towers would lead to more tower balancing which at the moment, not all the duals and triples that are in the game are truely balanced yet. in development, there was a decision to reduce/remove composite towers. The old roots tower, electricity tower, poison tower just to name a few did composite damage and were changed to their present elemental damage after realising how strong these composite towers were in beta testing.
-
the damage and aoe are already reduced... it's in the dev/beta forums (can't remember which one) ...
-
essentially this is what is known as ranDOOM. getting a close to unwinnable random. pretty decent to be able to reach 40+ with that set of random. it's part of playing random where you don't get a decent set of elements to complete the game with. happens to us pros too sometimes. even for us, not every game can be completed. even in pick DELF is one of the hardest builds to complete, with the lack of aoe and single-target slows as well as strong damage towers.. it's one of the 3 builds out of the 15 possible 4-element builds which i've yet to complete so far..
-
Knowledge comes with experience and plenty of experimenting. between the few of us (myself, cisz, jolin012 and the rest of the beta leads), we probably have a few thousand games played (counting the betas). No problems. Keep playing, read up on the strategy in the forums (and the tower placement guide and the other guides) and ask questions.

watch this replay. Cisz does LFNW to near-perfection. essentially the build goes: nova/windstorm, impulse, well/tidal. then upgrade everything starting from the well. Start with both aoe slows first. Kindle is a tower for the early game up to wave 25-30. after that, kindle and the upgrades do insignificant damage to the creeps. the tier2 light tower doesn't contribute significantly as you already mentioned. Also, the positioning of the flame and ice towers can be improved. know the technique of placing ice/flame on the extreme top-right corner of IX and extreme bottom-right corner of III? That placement will force the ice/flame to retarget quickly, hitting more creeps in the line.
-
way to go... the positioning of the defense has some room for improvements. Nova and quaker generally belongs to the long pass placement.. watch our games for the placements. the early undead wave should be taken with cannons. If you wanted to, the electricity tower should be build straight away. Electricity is a strong solo tower up to wave 17, even in VH.. LFNE is a weak element combination to start. the fire 2 catch was less than ideal.. you didn't use fire2 until much later and could have delayed the summoning instead of losing like 9? lives.. followed by the other tier2 elementals. i was expecting this to be a 4 element build before the tier1 water and dark were summoned later after the tier2s. 3 nova towers isn't really the right choice. In the build there is enchantment and flame as well. The aoe slow doesn't stack and nova is not really effective in multiples at the same location, more so for a 2-pass placement. it doesn't make much sense to start upgrading the towers in a opening 4 element build and later transit to a 6 element build just for periodics. The 6 element build has much to offer right from the start. the 4 aoe slows, corrosion, voodoo, quaker. In the build is also polar, ice, flame, zealot, impulse. Basically, you managed to get away because this was played in normal difficulty where any somewhat decent build will survive. well. just a quick one. I'll let jolin012 do the full analysis which he has already started on.. Recommended watching: Double no-leak by cisz and jolin012 VH rnd replays (watch the tower selection and placement)
-
one experimental game.. opening electricity rush at VII. then a move down to IV before moving up to IV VII, before moving the defense further up until i ended up playing at / VIII VII. made some key mistakes/underbuilding that led to mass leaks on some levels. 6-element build as usual. the ronald hunt kill zone didn't work out so only 40 ronalds killed. eletd_pbeta_163_pub_61_40ronalds.w3g
-
nice replay.. i did try doing WDNE(F) in vhx before.. the build essentially went roots, muck, well, blacksmith, zealot, voodoo, corrosion. wave 32 was the killer and i almost always leaked badly. the other one was the timing for the fanatic tower upgrade at 40-45. couldn't do it reliably and gave up.. this replay gives me the urge to try the build again (after my early game random guide is done up) .. vhx rnd would really take plenty of luck to do it.. maybe luck in chaos mode for a early 32 and 58.. vh rnd chaos short is pretty much doable. any 6-element build usually completes.. check the build lists thread in strategy for some -vhsrcmsm replays..
-
welcome. a bit late but nvm. yup. i'm also from singapore. to improve, watch the replays and read up the strategy on this forum. there's plenty of information on the forums. and post your replays on this forum. and look out for my random guide of which only the opening is up. check the info in my thread in strategy.. i'm also trying to get a eletd clan up in USwest but the major difficulty is finding enough players and being online at the same time..
-
for me it would be earth for the damage and the splash. next would be either fire or water.. and i wouldn't use nature pures unless i really had no choice (in rnd games)
