LOL at the offtopic.. Open discussion: What have you picked up from the draft (apart from how the draft works)? Discovered any new tricks/build knowledge? Forum draft #1b : same draft but you must summom tier3 light and use it in your build. Post your replays here!

yes..all games are played single-player.. as long as you have the correct wc3 version (1.22) and the right map..

More tower balacing to work on.. Rememeber the old b5 poison? That one was overpowered. Muck tower is much easier to put into play and is a strong tower with the aoe slow and higher damage than pollution which is purely a damage tower. Pollution requires support in slows to really be effective. Poison would do well with an increase in the damage. Gunpowder can be a decent tower after the damage buff from 400 to 500.. . In theory this would be ideal but it's difficult in practice due to the way different towers are used.. There's also a question of balancing for 'best' placement, 'average' placement and random placement.
-
the concept is explained at first page last post.. Draft #1 report at The forum draft series!
-
good point. we tend to start with the aoe slows first which aren't the best against the wave. Against mechnical, splash isn't as strong. A balance between aoe and ST is pretty important now.. with this wave coming at 32, the planning needs to start early.. the slows are not enough for this wave. This wave demands a strong ST damage tower like zealot or something..

Interested players for forum draft #2 PM me your nick now!

Wave 32: Goblin Shredders (composite, mechanical) To most players, this is probably one of the hardest waves in the game. many players have been shredded by this wave.. What strategies do you use on this wave? Discuss your builds in both pick and random modes. Possibilites WDNEF: roots, muck, zealot, well, blacksmith will take care of the wave (even in VHX).. Jolin used relocated mass nova in random mode.. So, what builds do YOU use for this wave..

Does anyone feel that there is much less 4.0 being hosted now? i remember when 4.0pb was released there were at least two or three hosts for the map. But now i hardly see any games hosted, although my -vhsrcmsm games usually still attract a fullhouse.. Has the interest gone down as players find the map too difficult? or are most still stuck in 3.0? or is it due to the lack of new releases and the 'disapperance' of karawasa? The forums always have more activity when he's around and posting new stuff.. Discuss...

poison is indead a weak tower, seeing limited use maybe on darkness waves or as an intermediate to muck towers.. gone were the days of b5 where poison was one of the strongest towers... and it's common to get 1 interest in the openings of short mode... anyone of you game for a round of the forum draft?
-
The first forum draft came to a close with jolin and kirby sharing first place. for full details refer to the forum draft series!
-
you'll have to be very lucky to complete VHX SR.. all 6 elements at wave 30 or a WDNEF build at least. opening you'll need nova/corrosion available.. the strategy for all undead waves is to use splash damage. once you get used to the concept it's just any other wave. maybe you were taken aback when they ressurected in your first game.. wave 9 use cannons. and as everyone before me has posted, you're more likely shredded by wave 32.. in fact wave 41 (water undead) can result in mass leaks if you're not careful/didn't plan well for it.. especially after summoning the elemental after wave 40 and realise you're not ready when the wave comes.

ah. kirby beat me to the replay analysis... many placement lessons can indeed be learnt from the draft. i'll probably lose with a much slower build speed and little interest abuse. i mean i do sell and rebuild for interest but not much. Only difference could be playing at IV V or VII (as in my 4th game) as opposed to III. It's true to say i haven't really been decently challenged unlike cisz and jolin. By wave 30, i'm the last survivor in most fullhouse games. seconded. at least in singleplayer and the ronald hunt. fullhouse multiplayer can't really say yet as i haven't seen much of this. there is one thread named the official eletd player finder but it's hardly used.. few if any posted their server and time online there that's good. Most of us (myself, cisz, jolin) all play at IV V or sometimes even up to VII, VIII and the odd attempt at / .. he could be referring to that but also the old 3.0 reconds where cisz hunted 60k or something ronalds.. use the irc channel more. we do organise games among ourselves starting in there. although it would have me going over to northend to play with a 3sec lag unless i'm host in which the rest will have the 3sec lag.. if not just create a game on bnet and i'll sure it'll fill up quite fast (as my games do) but don't expect any standard in the gameplay.. some can leak first wave or wave 16 (short mode) and almost all are schooled in 15 waves.. and i realised the forum draft topic featured something not seen in most other threads. posts with paragraphs of text. everyone suddenly became typists? j/k.. can see that the draft brough up many interesting points to discuss..
-
you pretty much owned the game.. with only 6 leaks.. although all 6 elements at 40 pretty much ensures a completed game.. and a pretty high game completion rate to put out so many replays.. well played..

All 5 replays cisz.w3g chris.w3g jolin012.w3g kaini.w3g kirby.w3g

The results will stand. Jolin012 and DDRKirby(ISQ) will share the spoils in what has been a memorable first draft. The '-2' rule will not be used.. Draft report in first post, replay download in next post...

All 5 replays in!.. i will help all drafters post their replays together with the draft report in first post. i remember we did have an idea to do something like that but it was scraped as it wasn't worth the attempt short of having nonsensically named towers like beef golem (yes. that was the name at one stage in the betas..)
-
i'll wait another roughly 24hrs for him.. wouldn't disqualify him so fast.. after that i'll say all drafters post their own replays in this thread once either he replies or i disqualify him..
-
my 4th -vhsrcmsm completed game (fullhouse multiplayer) was played at VII.. i leaked quite a bit.. but yes. it is possible to do long pass VII..
-
i was referring to WordsWorth's replay about the roots at III.. I always play IV V.. more so in a zealot-based build which is best at V.. once i build my zealots, i tend to build the rest of the defense around it, hence ending up that i play a long-pass V in random mode...
-
The draft is closed! so everyone except chris submitted their replays by PM to me (at the time of this post).. It's been a blast organising this draft.. this goes out to all who supported this draft 'tournament' . i'm sure all you drafters learnt something new, experimented with unconventional builds and had fun.. not to mention all the last minute rushing to get that perfect noleak replay.. Draft report will follow soon (most likely over the weekend).. i'll try to announce the results within 48hrs. Anyone fancy draft #2 ??
-
not that it's wrong. i felt that it didn't contribute as much to the defense in your setup. the roots at III/VI was kind of unsupported and i wouldn't really say it's a good leak catcher at that position. maybe i'm wrong and will have a relook at it.. i personally have played with 2 roots/mucks at extreme left of IV and at the bend of V. Playing a IV/V defense, those 2 placements are quite optimum i feel.. This placement can vary depending on the setup of the entire defense...
-
if there are ties in a single aspect, all players will get the lower score. overall ties will be settled with the '-2' build design winner (picked by draft host) rule although i would not want to use this rule if possible...
-
he's asking do you kill all the creeps or you have 30 leaks every wave. You know what it means by leaking? if you kill all the creeps and don't leak anything, the placement can't be too far away from correct. if you leak every wave, then something needs to be done. i have completed -vhsrcmsm games decently with entire defense at long-pass 5 .. so there is no hard and fast rule about long-pass against 2-pass placement. in some games, we do 'misplace' towers but that's not really encouraged unless you're trying something non-standard out and know your builds well.. nevertheless, you should learn the correct placements for every tower.
-
nice one.. you got the best 5-element build in random. with tier2 muck and well to go with the pure earth.. and 1 interest.. really rare you get a random so close to a pick game.. your final build is somewhat close to what i used to noleak WDNEF in pick.. maybe try playing fullhouse multiplayer and see if you can do as well?
