  1. i try to refrain from too much Starcraft > Warcraft generalizations, though i feel entitled to that opinion since I was originally a WC3 player before I got semi-serious about SC (though, I'm a lot more serious about other games like Tetris, than either of the two). However I firmly believe that SC is much better as a spectator sport since it's much more exciting and fast-paced. Warcraft has its beautiful moments too but that feeling of "omg!" is not there nearly as often.
  2. thought we already had a thread for this =P anybody else playing these days? ICCUP? I'm currently ~D, maybe D+, havent really started climbing up the ranks seriously yet. Zerg player, I've always favored the swarm. I've played around with the other races from time to time though.
  3. imho the build/sell is actually not as bad as i thought...i still think the hand color is an issue, but the fact that build has more color is a good thing.
  4. What? I'm not following your math at all. Using 4.0PB values: each super arrow gives 162 damage for 57 gold. That's a ratio of 2.84. each elemental arrow gives 486 damage, but that's reduced to 364.5 damage vs composite. At 162 gold, that's a ratio of 2.25. super arrows are therefore roughly 25% more cost-effective in this case. Usually the best case though, is to build a crapload of super arrow towers, then right before interest hits, you sell a bunch, then right after interest hits, you upgrade a bunch to elemental arrows. The idea is to sell elemental arrows before interest and upgrade them after, so you get the benefit of the extra damage, but without the downside of the decreased interest. It really depends on your interest-farming style though. Generally I just like to build a crapton of basic arrow towers and I don't really have a specific plan, just upgrade them and use my best judgment and usually it works out okay, as long as I built enough.
  5. Wow, that's great. I always just set it to 0 and then end up hitting - by mistake and making the whole game slower xD
  6. (note that i was mostly posting that video for laughs =P)
  7. excellent point. please don't change things
  8. the main issue that springs to mind is that it's not intuitive if you're new to things (and therefore don't really understand what the hotkey system methodology is). However, newbies are probably just as likely to use their mouse anyways (for tooltip reasons, etc). otherwise, i like the proposed system. though really it doesn't make too much difference to me in the end.
  9. I think he means mushroom would be 'E' from nature tower, and 'R' from earth tower. (?) Laser would be E from trickery, L from Gunpowder, and D from Quark...
  10. STARCRAFT IS AWESOME [/offtopic] yeah, I don't think periodic tower hotkey is the issue we should be talking about, but rather the entire hotkey scheme as a whole. I think it would be silly to change just periodic tower so that it's an oddball when compared to every single other tower. However, I am open to other hotkey schemes. One that has been suggested in the past is a hotkey scheme based on elements. For example, fire tower is F, then to upgrade to flame you press "N" to add nature element. One issue with this scheme is: obviously there is no element to arrow/cannon/periodic so that's a weird hiccup. another possibility, just brought up, is to have all hotkeys on the left side of the keyboard for easy access. Major con to this one is that it would take getting used to the system and somewhat arbitrary decisions would have to be made. @Cisz, not all SC keys are within easy reach...'P' for building probes for instance (though toss doesn't need such furious apm anyways =P). *How does warkeys interact with ETD? I know people have changed their WC3 hotkeys so that move is "Q", for instance, since M is a bit awkward to reach. Is it possible to do the same for eletd games?
  11. I can see how you would have trouble if you either were in a really dark environment, or tried not to look down at your keyboard. Otherwise, no johns son.
  12. the delay is part of the reason that undead waves are more vulnerable to AoE damage--it makes it so that the creeps clump up more. IMHO this is a good thing, since healing/mech/fast all disfavor AoE damage.
  13. i dont understand how pures can be abused with that. Doesn't the food problem invalidate that kind of abuse? The food problem is really bad with eidolons. Having to wait MINUTES before getting an extra pure can be pretty painful. Not to mention we already have placement problems with towers getting in the way...there really really needs to be some way to destroy clones. Heck, even make them attackable or SOMETHING.
  14. Yep. I haven't practiced this much yet but i already had that idea. I think for some reason if you set trickery to DISABLE autocast, when you upgrade to mirage/eidolon it will be ENABLED. Not sure, but I seem to remember that happening. On a side note, even though clones disappear when selling the original tower (or, they supposedly do...i haven't tried it out), you can still perform some small abuse by cloning towers that are upgrading and then cancelling them. Basically gaining a copy of that tower without actually paying for it. But, this is a very small, and pretty ineffective abuse (can only be done once per minute for each tower) so it's nothing to worry about.
  15. how often do you need to build and sell things at the SAME TIME? moving your hand around isn't that hard, is it? hey, if the starcraft pros can do it... [youtube:1o9gsdp9]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTt9L3mMTbw[/youtube:1o9gsdp9]
  16. just how many periodic towers do you plan to build, anyways? Come on now, don't be so lazy . Maybe you're trying to use touch-typing, in which case you shouldn't. pinky on B, index on P. BPclick, done. Really, how can you complain about periodics being hard to build and not complain about Light towers; "L" is right next to P and I've probably built OVER 9000 times more light towers than periodic towers in all my eletd games. =P
  17. yes, but there's no great and reliable way to have 3 towers always shoot at the same creep. in cases such as where i start out with $$$, i usually just mass an appropriate number of super arrow towers and don't worry about exact damage.
  18. maybe he means to say that the creep hp boost was high enough such that playing a game as before is impossible, so now you have to either use underhanded tactics (leaking 1 creep and waiting for interest to accumulate, maybe combined with life towers), or play very very slowly (don't play at 4/5, use a lot of slowing, take as much time as possible to allow interest to accumulate). ???
  19. yeah, up until round 13 there is pretty much a tried-and-true opening that a lot of experienced players use. If you watch a replay by someone like Cisz or jolin you'll see it.
  20. haven't watched the replay yet, but lvl 2 elements usually require towers to be placed on a LONGPASS placement (read the placement guide). Usually elemental arrows work well for this. Make sure you use the correct element to ensure 200% damage! Other towers that work very well for helping to kill elementals: -Impulse -Hydro -Polar -Jinx etc.
  21. was tempted to go for eidolon, but... 12th pick: Fire 3 really i would rather have had well lvl 3. I love seeing towers shoot ridiculously fast
