I guess "4.0 beta 24" is more secure because if it is leaked nobody will care about it because 4.0 final is already here.

on the other hand, a lot of our original beta reports were just labeled [beta 1], [beta 2], ... , so we could just call it 4.1 beta 24 despite that the 23 preceding numbers were for 4.0.
