Random Tower Mode

Here's a silly mode... this would be an alternate choice to All Pick, All Random, and Same Random.



Random Tower mode. Every 5 waves, instead of getting a random element, you get a random Dual or Triple element tower. When you get that tower, you get access to all upgrades for that tower as well.



After completing Wave 5, everyone gets access to base level single-element towers. After wave 15, upgrades for focused unlocked, and after wave 30, upgrades for refined unlock.

That sounds fun, and it is less chaotic than random elements as you could end up with so many possibilities with that mode it's hard to keep track of.

This looks interesting. So you can build whatever the tower you received upgrades to/from? Or just the higher tier of that tower you were given?

Something to consider.. do we really want or need so many modes? Sure. They give more options to play. But we also don't want the votes to be too long.

Reminds me of the hours I spent with a player trying to get a decent set of random towers using uther in 2player extreme mode burb td.

Just the highest tier. Point is that by the end, excluding your 6 base single-element towers, you have a choice of 11 of 35 random dual/triple towers. Combinations that weren't possible before become doable since you have full access to maxing the level of each tower, but it takes a good knowledge of the game to fully utilize these combos. It is entirely possible to get all 11 support towers, and then just use that + single-element towers. It's not necessarily balanced, just supposed to be fun.



Well, Race mode is getting the axe for the DOTA 2 version. I'm just suggesting this as something down-the-road. I think the game could use more silly/fun modes, personally. There's really nothing wrong with a lot of different modes, just so long as each one is genuinely fun to play. A lot of multiplayer games nowadays have 10+ different game modes. A good portion of EleTD's "modes" are more like game settings, ala game length, wave order, the way wave interaction is handled, average difficulty, etc.

All support tower ain't that bad. Haven't you already proven all support tower build can clear? Plus you will have tier2 of all the triples available.

Would be interesting to see if this is as (im)balanced as all random..

It's possible, and in fact, due to the fact that DOTA 2 handles movement speed modifier stacking (additive and not multiplicative), something normally impossible like all 4 slowing towers at Level 2 would uhhh... break the game, actually. 22.5 * 4 = 90, so all creeps drop down from 300 ms to 30 ms. Might need to wait till multiplicative is supported, or just stick a hard cap of number of slowing towers you can get.

Eletd handles slows differently than normal dota client. 4 level 3 slows are 0.7^4 or 0.24 MS. so lowest MS would be 72.

True!

That's probably why he said "Might need to wait till multplicative is supported" in 2014, which is in fact supported now..
